Choose home internet for remote work around your workday: the applications you must reach, meetings you attend, files you send and other people sharing the connection. Compare providers that can serve the exact address, then verify the plan and home setup against those requirements before relying on them for work.

Write a workday requirement list

Ask your employer's technology team about required applications, approved network arrangements and any support or reimbursement rules. Include camera meetings, screen sharing, remote desktop access and large file transfers. Do not change employer security settings to improve a speed-test result.

Microsoft's Teams network guidance distinguishes the bandwidth needs of audio, video and screen sharing, and treats devices as separate endpoints. Test the place where you actually work

Once connected, record the device, room, connection type and time for a normal work session. Check that you can join a meeting, share your screen and use required systems with the approved setup. Do not put confidential work material into a public test service.

Use an internet speed test as one observation alongside application performance. Where supported, compare your usual Wi-Fi connection with Ethernet near the router. Keep the comparison consistent and take persistent problems to your provider or employer's support team. This is a diagnostic checklist, not a certification of uptime.

Plan for interruptions

Decide what you will do if the main connection fails during an important work period. A possible backup might be an employer-approved mobile connection or another approved workplace. Check actual access, signal, data limits and cost, then confirm that your work systems can be used there under your employer's rules.

Do not assume that a second connection is independent of every possible failure, or that a hotspot will support every task. Write down the fallback, its limits and the person to contact. A practical response plan is more useful than an unsupported claim that any provider has no downtime.

Use the provider directory to research available candidates, then compare complete quoted cost, suitability for your work and installation timing. Keep confirmed facts separate from unanswered questions.
