Are you looking for internet services in San Antonio? If so, you're in the right place. Read on to learn more about the best internet providers in San Antonio.

Your Guide to the Best Internet Providers in San Antonio

For such a large city, San Antonio is surprisingly not very connected. Only 62.5% of this city's households have internet access.

However, this doesn't mean you don't have some great options when it comes to internet service providers (ISPs). If you're searching "internet providers near me," then you probably want to find the best internet deals possible.

Konecteaze is here to give you all the detailed information you need to make an informed choice. Here are the best internet providers in San Antonio you can choose from, as well as their plans so you can do a price comparison.

Charter Spectrum

Charter Spectrum first came about in 1993 and provides cable internet. They have coverage in 98.6% of San Antonio, which means you'll likely be able to get service where you're at.

This company allows you to bundle their internet services with TV and phone services. However, if you want just the internet alone, you can choose from 3 different packages. They include:

  • Internet (100 Mbps): $49.99/month
  • Internet Ultra (400 Mbps): $69.99/month
  • GIG (940 Mbps): $109.99/month

As you can see, Spectrum offers some really high internet speeds at decent prices in San Antonio. In fact, if you're trying to find the fastest internet, you'll get it with the GIG plan.

Do note that these are all 1-ear promo rates. After the first year, the prices go up to $69.99, $94.99, and $129.99 respectively.

When it comes to customer reviews, there are quite a few mixed testimonials around. In general, 50% of customers said they'd recommend Spectrum internet. This might sound low, but most ISPs average about 48.4%, so their general opinion is actually a little higher than average.

AT&T

AT&T is one of the biggest names in the US; it's practically impossible that you haven't heard of this company before. They were first established in 1983 and they offer both IPBB internet and fiber optic internet. IPBB internet is essentially a type of hybrid DSL connection.

For their IPBB services, they cover 94.2% of the city. If you want fiber optics, this drops to 53.1%, so there's a decent chance your area may not receive this service.

As you may have guessed, AT&T offers a few plans that bundle TV and phone with internet service. However, you can also get just high-speed internet by itself. Plans include:

  • 1,000 Mbps (fiber): $49.99/month
  • 100 Mbps (DSL): $49.99/month
  • 10 Mbps (fixed wireless): $60.00/month

These are all promo rates and after 1 year, the prices go up to $69.99, $59.99, and $70.00 respectively. You'll be pleased to know that the data cap speed test AT&T shows that there are no caps, which means you can surf all you want.

AT&T has decent reviews from their customers. Around 41.1% of them said they'd recommend the company to their friends. This is slightly below average, but still not bad.

EarthLink

EarthLink was first established in 1994 and provides DSL connections and fiber optic internet for San Antonio. They have a city coverage of 94.2% for DSL and 53.1% for fiber, so it may be hit or miss for getting the latter in your area.

EarthLink is probably one of the only ISPs that offer such a wide variety of plans. They include:

  • 3 Mbps: $14.95/month
  • 6 Mbps: $19.95/month
  • 7 Mbps: $19.95/month
  • 15 Mbps: $24.95/month

These are all for DSL and are 3-month promo rates. Prices go up to $39.95, $44.95, $49.95, and $54.95 after.

For fiber optic packages, they are:

  • 50 Mbps: $49.95/month
  • 80 Mbps: $69.95/month
  • 100 Mbps: $79.95/month
  • 200 Mbps: $89.95/month
  • 1,000 Mbps: $99.95/month

The first package is a 1-year promo rate that goes to $69.95 afterward.

As you can see, EarthLink offers so many internet plans at such affordable rates that there's something that's right for every household.

For the most part, most customers rate this company as a good ISP. So it's definitely worth considering choosing one of EarthLink's many packages.

Grande

Grande's one of the smaller internet providers in town (they serve just Texas), so they only cover about 13.7% of San Antonio with their cable internet services. This company was founded in 1999.

Like with many other ISPs in this article, Grande has plans that include TV and phone. However, you can always just internet-only plans. They have:

  • 50 Mbps: $29.99/month
  • 300 Mbps: $35.99/month
  • 600 Mbps: $49.99/month
  • 940 Mbps: $69.99/month

The first plan is a 1-year promo rate. All the rest are 2-year promo rates. Compared to many of the other providers available, Grande has very affordable rates.

This ISP has decent reviews from their customers. Where they stand out is their customer service; they offer better than average services that are speedy as well.

Google Fiber

Fiber optic internet offers some of the fastest speeds on the internet available. When it's offered by Google, then you know it's bound to be good.

But the downside to fiber-optic service is it's rare to find in any city, and San Antonio is no exception. Google Fiber is only available in 2.8% of the city, which is 12 zip codes. So service is pretty exclusive.

If you're lucky enough to be in their service area, it's pretty easy when it comes to their pricing. You simply pay $70/month to get speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps. They won't lock you in with an annual contract either, so you can back out any time you'd like and not have to pay a penalty fee.

Because their fiber optic internet is so fairly priced, plus it's not just a promo rate, customers love Google Fiber. This is one of the most cost-effective ways to get fast internet without breaking the bank.

Fixed Wireless Internet

Besides DSL, cable, and fiber optic internet, you'll also have the choice of fixed wireless internet. This is where you receive internet signals through broadcast radio waves, which means you don't have to wire anything up. All you need is to install a receiver.

If you live in more rural parts of the city, then fixed wireless internet can be a good alternative. Here are some of the providers available in San Antonio.

ZipLink

ZipLink was founded in 1995 as a local company and serves about 73.4% of the city. So for most residents, you'll be able to receive service.

They have several plans available. They include 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 Mbps for downloads. Respectively, their upload speeds are 2, 5, 5, 5, 5, 10, and 10.

Unfortunately, ZipLink doesn't list any of their prices on their website. If you're interested in any of their plans, you'll have to call for the pricing. You can also request a free signal check.

As far as customer reviews go, it's a mixed bag. So you might want to explore your options before settling on ZipLink.

Rise Broadband

Rise Broadband was established in 2005 and offers coverage to 42.7% of the city, which is 47 zip codes. It's pretty much a coin flip whether or not the company has service in your area.

With Rise Broadband, they offer 3 different plans. Choose from:

  • 25 Mbps (250 GB/month data cap): $29.95/month
  • 50 Mbps (no data cap): $49.95/month
  • 25 Mbps (no data cap): $59.99/month

The first plan is a 1-year promo rate that increases by $10 afterward. The second plan is a 2-year promo rate.

Unfortunately, Rise Broadband doesn't have very good reviews from its customers. They've received an overall rating of 1.7 stars out of 5. You'll probably want to check out your other choices before settling on this ISP.

Phoenix Broadband

Phoenix Broadband was founded in 1998 initially as a VoIP provider. Today, they also bring fixed wireless internet services to the public. They serve 89.5% of San Antonio across 59 zip codes.

This provider has several plans to choose from. They are:

  • 2 Mbps: $59.95/month
  • 4 Mbps: $79.95/month
  • 6 Mbps: $99.95/month
  • 8 Mbps: $119.95/month
  • 10 Mbps: $139.95/month
  • 15 Mbps: $159.95/month

These are all based on 2-year contracts. If you choose no contract, you'll pay an additional $20.00 per month and $10.00 per month if you choose a 1-year contract.

As you can see, these speeds aren't very fast and the prices are pretty expensive for the speeds they're providing. In addition, their reviews aren't the greatest either. For all these reasons, once again, you might want to consider other options that are more affordable.

Rock Solid Internet

Rock Solid Internet is part of the VTX1 Company, which was founded in 1952. They cover 67.8% of the city, across 56 zip codes.

This ISP has 5 plans available for you to choose from:

  • 3 Mbps: $39.99/month
  • 10 Mbps: $69.99/month
  • 25 Mbps: $74.99/month
  • 50 Mbps: $129.99/month
  • 100 Mbps: $149.99/month

These prices aren't bad when compared to other ISPs, so you might consider putting them on on your list somewhere.

However, do note that while there aren't that many customer ratings for Rock Solid Internet, most aren't that great. You might want to read up on what customers have issues with the company.

Ranch Wireless

Ranch Wireless was first established in 1998 and is a provider of solely fixed wireless internet. They have a city coverage of 63.4%, which spans 54 zip codes.

With Ranch Wireless, you'll have your pick of options for plans. They are:

  • Basic (5 Mbps): $29.95/month
  • Ranch Hand (8 Mbps): $49.95/month
  • Ranch Boss (10 Mbps): $69.95/month
  • Ranch Max (10 Mbps): $89.95/month
  • Ranch Unlimited (25 Mbps): $119.95/month

The difference between the Ranch Boss and Ranch Max is you get up to 150 GB of data use with the former and up to 200 GB with the latter. For the others, you get 30 and 60 GB of data use a month. Obviously, you'll get unlimited data usage with the Ranch Unlimited plan.

The few reviews found online for Ranch Wireless aren't too great. In addition, their prices are on the more expensive side.

GVTC.net

GVTC.net was first established way back in 1938, which means they have a great history. Today, they offer a variety of fixed wireless internet to people in San Antonio. However, they only have a city coverage of 11.3% across 25 zip codes.

Their plans include:

  • 1 Mbps: $34.95/month
  • 3 Mbps: $49.95/month
  • 8 Mbps: $59.95/month
  • 16 Mbps: $79.95/month
  • 25 Mbps: $99.95/month

As you can see, GVEC.net offers services that are a bit more affordable than the other ISPs.

Overall, this company gets pretty good reviews from its customers. So GVEC.net is a tier above some of the other fixed wireless internet providers.

Vivint Internet

Vivint Internet was founded in 1997 and covers only 2.7% of San Antonio. This means you need to live within the 15 zip codes they serve.

This company just has 1 plan available: 100 Mbps at $59.99 per month. You can also add some other services (such as VoIP service or cloud storage) for extra.

Along with their smart home security offerings, Vivint Internet gets great reviews for their fixed wireless internet services.

Satellite Internet

In some cases, you may live somewhere so rural that you can't get DSL, cable, fiber optic, or fixed wireless internet. In that case, satellite internet may be best for rural internet, as the providers pretty much have 100% coverage over everywhere, even if you're out in the sticks.

For San Antonio, your main choices are Viasat and HughesNet. Read on to find out more about each provider.

Viasat

Viasat has been around ever since 1986. They have 100% coverage for San Antonio, which is great for people who live in the outskirts of town.

Their plans include:

  • Liberty 12 (12 Mbps; 12 GB/month data cap): $50/month
  • Liberty 25 (12 Mbps; 25 GB/month data cap): $75/month
  • Liberty 50 (12 Mbps; 50 Gb/month data cap): $100/month
  • Unlimited Silver 25 (25 Mbps; no data cap): $150/month

All of the above Viasat deals allow you to connect at slower speeds once you've used your priority data. You can also purchase more. From 3:00 am until 6:00 am, usage doesn't count toward your priority data, which is great for night owls.

Overall, most customers like using Viasat as a satellite internet option. The Viasat speeds aren't too bad either, especially when compared to other companies' plans.

HughesNet

If you're looking for Viasat alternatives, HughesNet is it. They were established in 1971 and also have 100% coverage for San Antonio.

HughesNet deals include:

  • 25 Mbps (20 GB/month data cap): $69.99/month
  • 25 Mbps (30 GB/month data cap): $99.99/month
  • 25 Mbps (50 GB/month data cap): $149.99/month

With all these plans, you'll get 50 GB extra per month to use between 2:00 am and 8:00 am.

Most HughesNet reviews are pretty solid. Their prices are also pretty comparable to Viasat's, but they offer a no data cap at $150/month while HughesNet has a 50 GB/month cap at that price.
